SR-22 rules in California
California uses the SR-22 form, typically required for 3 years after a qualifying violation.
Filed electronically by your insurer with the California DMV (not CDI). Required 3 years from license reinstatement after DUI, driving without insurance, or an at-fault uninsured accident.
Minimum liability coverage: $30,000 bodily injury per person / $60,000 per accident / $15,000 property damage. Minimums raised under SB 1107, effective January 1, 2025.
Same-day SR-22 questions
What does same-day SR-22 filing mean?
An SR-22 is a certificate of financial responsibility your insurer files with the state to show required liability coverage is in place. On this page, same-day means the agency website states that it can issue or transmit the certificate that day. It does not mean the state will accept it, update its records, or reinstate a license that day.
How did you identify these same-day claims?
We reviewed each agency's website and kept the label only when the site made a direct filing-speed claim with an exact excerpt and source URL. Generic descriptions of what insurance companies may do were excluded. The 69 agency-location records on this page have retained evidence, but nocarplan.com did not purchase policies or measure completed filings. Read our full verification process.
What if no same-day agent is near me?
Many agencies can quote and sell by phone, so an agency elsewhere in California may be able to help. Confirm that it is licensed for your situation, that the advertised timing still applies, and what proof you will receive. If none of the agencies here work out, browse the full California directory and filter for SR-22 support.
How much does an SR-22 cost in California?
The SR-22 filing itself is usually a small one-time fee added to your policy. The bigger cost is the premium increase from the violation that triggered the requirement, which depends on your driving record, insurer, and where you live in California. Comparing quotes from an independent agent is the most reliable way to find your actual price — our SR-22 insurance guide walks through the process step by step.
